Rob is a Former Premier of South Australia and has held various ministries including Primary Industries, Regional Development, Industries and Resources, Forestry, State Development and Tourism. In addition to having been the Chair of Regional Development South Australia for 14 years he is currently Deputy Chair of the Regional Australian Institute, Chair S.A Oyster Growers Association and SA Oyster Research Council, President of South Australian National Football League (SANFL), Chair Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority and Chair Adelaide Oval Hotel Trust.
