Case Study - Limestone Coast Leadership Program
Featuring
Description
- Peta Crewe introduced the case study with an overview of the Limestone Coast Leadership Program, delivered from 2019 to 2021.
- The program was designed in partnership with, and delivered by, the Leaders Institute of South Australia.
- It was rolled out across all seven local government areas within the Limestone Coast region.
- The program accepted 15 participants per year and focused on strengthening the capabilities of existing and emerging leaders.
- Its aim was to equip participants with skills to work with and influence others for the benefit of the region.
- Topics covered included personal leadership styles, motivation and mentoring, governance and finance, public speaking, relationship building, change management, emotional intelligence, economic development, and community action projects.
- Kristy and Kristen shared how the program supported their advocacy for meaningful community change.
- They joined to expand professional development, strengthen community connections, and push beyond their comfort zones.
- Together, they identified limited childcare services in their town as a critical issue.
- Unlike metropolitan areas, Kingston residents faced insufficient access to childcare.
- This lack of access prevented many women from returning to the workforce despite being willing and able.
- Using skills gained through the program, Kristy and Kristen formed a working group to advocate for equal early childhood education and workforce participation opportunities.
- They now meet regularly with the State Government and Education Department to discuss their project and broader community needs.
- They secured bipartisan support for $1.8 million in funding to build a childcare centre next to Kingston Community School.
- The centre will initially employ three workers, operating three days per week.
- With a seat at the table, they continue to advocate for broader childcare reform across South Australia.
