ABC Heywire puts young people aged 16–22 from regional, rural and remote Australia at the centre of national conversations that shape their communities. Delivered by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the program invites participants to share their stories and develop ideas that improve liveability, opportunity and access to resources in the regions.
The program includes the annual ABC Heywire competition and the ABC Heywire Regional Youth Summit, held at Australian Parliament House. Winners work with ABC staff to transform their stories into broadcast-ready content and connect with government leaders, agencies and impact partners. The program also includes the ABC Trailblazers initiative, supporting young leaders to develop and pitch social, educational and economic projects that deliver regional impact.
Through its long-standing partnership with the RDA network, ABC Heywire aligns strongly with regional development priorities including youth leadership, skills pathways, community capacity building and future resilience.
