Dan was appointed South Australia’s Small Business Commissioner in August 2025. He has lived interstate, overseas, in Adelaide, in Outback South Australia for seven years, and now in Wilmington in the Southern Flinders Ranges for the last 18 years. His career has spanned the distributor and retail sectors of the oil industry, ownership and operation of outback roadhouses, regional tourism, service as a country and outback MP, Minister for Energy and Mining, Deputy Premier, and roles as board director and chair.
His current work balances commercial and volunteer roles with a focus on regional development, responsible energy industry practice, business development, and supporting small business as part of his Commissioner role. He strives to achieve strong community, economic, and environmental outcomes through collaborative use of experience, information, and governance.
Dan’s experience and way of working contribute strongly to the RDA Adelaide Board’s leadership and positive outcomes for all of regional South Australia.
